The Importance of Evangelism
Evangelism is the proclamation of the historical, Biblical “Christ as Savior and Lord” in the community and the world with the intent of seeing individuals reconciled to God. This call is for people to deny “self”, take up the cross of Christ, and identify with His new family.
Evangelism is never a message separated from the individual. It is a message that is demonstrated through the lifestyle and words of an individual (1 Timothy 4: 15-16). The results of evangelism include obedience to Christ, incorporation into His church and responsible service in the world.
Evangelism should be defined not only in terms of its results but also its methods and message. All of the problems we face in our communities, country and the world can find their answered through the powerful Word of God (2 Peter 1:3-5). We are challenged by the Bible to find humble men and women who are called by God with the gift of evangelism to impact the community and the world for God’s glory. Jesus Christ came to “seek and to save those who are lost” (Luke 19:10).
This call is not just for those in the local community, where the church resides, but also all those around the world. (Acts 1:8)
